Camp Libbey

Nestled along the banks of the scenic Maumee River just outside Defiance, Ohio, Camp Edward Drummond Libbey has almost 350 acres of fields, forests and ravines. The resident camp program during the summer months offers a variety of programs for girls that include swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, archery, crafts and more.

  • Counselor-In-Training (CIT)
    This opportunity is for the aspiring camp counselor. CIT participants will spend nights in their own unit and receive ongoing supervision and leadership guidance from the CIT manager, while learning the skills needed to be an outstanding camp counselor during the day. CITs will experience the challenges and rewards of working with younger girls through training that includes application of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, exploring the various leadership styles, learning positive behavior techniques, age and social characteristics, and resident camp skills. Participants will have an opportunity to observe unit and program staff plus plan and execute an all-camp activity. Participants will have the opportunity to evaluate experiences and receive guidance from the CIT manager as they assist in units, building up to spending an entire day with their assigned unit. Girls will earn their CIT I pin (provided). Participants will go home over the weekend of June 20-22. Prerequisite: CIT

  • Messy Munchkins (Mini)
    Is making a mess a sign of a good time? In this adventurous session getting messy is the name of the game! You’ll get to do all of camp’s favorites like swimming and singing, but we’ll set aside time to do messy science experiments, mud masks, paper mache and make edible play dough! (Wed-Fri)

  • Brownie Explorer
    Are you ready for an adventure? Spend time doing all the fun things camp has to offer. You’ll hike, play pool games, climb the climbing wall, go on a bug hunt, make a nature craft and even cook something over the campfire. A great adventure is waiting for you!

  • Horsin’ Around
    This session is for girls who love horses. While you’ll start and end your session at Camp Libbey, you’ll begin your horse adventure at Marmon Valley Farms near Bellefontaine. There you will stay and spend three afternoons at the stable learning the basics of riding, horse safety and grooming. Each day you’ll participate in ground class; have riding instruction in the arena, then head out on the trail. Later, you’ll meet with the Farrier where you’ll learn about the art of horseshoeing, plus learn about horse care and veterinary practices. When you’re not with the horses, enjoy a barn dance and other fun activities at the “farm”. Return to Libbey Wednesday evening where you can choose your favorite Camp Libbey activities and participate in the final campfire.

  • Campapalooza
    Try it all at camp! Make art to wear, create crafts, climb the wall, shoot archery, and try paintball slingshots. Top it off with a slumber party with movies and spend anight camping out in tents that you pitch. Do other favorite activities at camp, all planned by you!

  • Café Libbey
    Who’s hungry? Spend the week perfecting your skills as a chef whipping up snacks, main courses, and desserts. Highlights include smoothies, making fresh bread, and challenging each other to a cook-off. Try a variety of indoor and outdoor cooking techniques from the Junior Simple Meals and Camper badges. Make it, eat it and enjoy it!

  • The Arena
    You have been chosen to participate in the Annual Camp Games. It is time to master your outdoor survival skills and build your alliances. You will learn about wild edibles, teamwork, camouflage, archery, perseverance, knots, shelter building, and so much more. Then test your skills in the arena and overcome the game makers.

  • Passion for Fashion
    Love to create? From sketches to stitches, try your hand at fashion designs as you update old pieces of clothing by performing t-shirt surgery, make jewelry like pop-tab bracelets and magazine beads, and create pillowcase purses! Showcase your designs to camp during final campfire. When you need a break from designing, pamper yourself with homemade, eco-friendly spa remedies like an oatmeal scrub and make your own bath salts.

  • Fandom
    What’s a fandom? Its community that surrounds a book/tv show/movie, ect. For those of you who are absolutely inspired by popular works such as Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Dr. Who, or of any fandom, come to camp to explore what characteristics make them so successful. Try your hand at comic illustrations, screenwriting, book binding, and character development as you create your own work of fiction! Girls will work towards the Cadette Comic Artist, Screenwriter, and/or Book Artist badges.

  • Wanderlust
    If you love to travel around, this time you are in charge of planning the whole trip! As a unit, choose three fun day trips (Dave & Busters? Giant playground? Imagination Station? The zoo?). Based on your budget, determine what best fits your goals and needs. Call businesses to reserve tickets, research maps for your road trips, make meal and overnight accommodations as necessary. Girls will work towards their Senior Traveler badge.

    Join us to learn some dance moves, sing songs and practice your lines. Let your creative juices flow while you try your hand at acting or singing, experiment with stage makeup, make stage props and dance the night away!   • Glitter Bugs (Mini)
    This shortened session is for the girl who always wants to draw, paint and play with Play-Doh! Spend your time in the Craft House exploring new materials to make fun crafts, like sculpy clay pens, pony bead jewelry, painting ceramics, and using sidewalk chalk to beautify a building on camp! You’ll also have time to try other camp activities like swimming and campfires! (Sun-Tues)

  • Shutterbugs
    Capture the perfect shot while mastering all the features of a digital camera. You’ll explore different genres of photography (portrait, landscape and photojournalism), how to craft a superior photograph, and then use your new skills to create an awesome digital photo project. Focus on shooting techniques, mastering camera features, and editing photographs while working towards the Junior Digital Photographer badge. Bring your own digital camera or contact the Outdoor Program Manager if you need help obtaining a camera for this session. Only digital cameras will be used for program requirements. In-between shoots, enjoy some of your favorite camp activities.

    It doesn’t matter if you are new to horseback riding or expanding your skills, you will love this horse session for Cadettes.     This one-week opportunity is for girls who have completed their Program Aide Training and are ready to begin exploring the pathway to camp leadership. Topics covered in training include: introduction to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, age and social characteristics of younger campers, essential skills needed to be a great counselor, and how to lead songs and games. Pre-CITs will spend nights in their own unit and receive ongoing supervision and leadership guidance from the CIT manager, while building teamwork skills, observing unit staff, and assisting in units during the day.

Be prepared to compete, cupcake versus cupcake in the tastiest camp bakeoff yet as you work in a team to impress the judges.
