WHAT IS A WALKABOUT?
Many people want to purchase Girl Scout cookies but are never asked.
A Walkabout is a direct sales event designed to energize girls to
meet or exceed their cookie goals. It is a great opportunity for
girls and their parents/guardians to get out within their
communities, to sell cookies in new neighborhoods that may not
normally have girls going door-to-door.
Walkabouts help girls to Discover more about the towns that they
live in; Connect
with the people in those communities; and Take Action by building
confidence in themselves and their abilities as they communicate
effectively to reach their goals.
GUIDELINES:
-
The theme for this year’s cookie sale is
“Going Places, Girls Take the Lead!”
-
All Girl Scout age levels may participate in
the Walkabout. This includes Girl Scout Daisies. Troops
decide whether they want to participate in the program.
-
The Council-Wide Walkabout will take place on
Saturday, March 7, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. While
March 7, 2009, is the Council’s Walkabout date, any weekend is
perfect for walkabouts and caravans!
-
Girls should wear uniforms when going into
the community to identify themselves as Girl Scouts.
-
Cookies should be in hand for this sale.
-
Cookie cupboards will
be open to secure cookies for the troop’s Walkabout inventory.
For cookie cupboard locations and times, look in your 2009
Cookie Book or visit
www.girlscoutsofwesternohio.org
and click on the Cookie Sale link.
-
Remember to follow all Safety-Wise
guidelines for girl/adult ratios and to select a safe Walkabout
location.
TRAINING
Online Troop Cookie Manager Training
Troop Cookie Manager Training will be available online this year!
Click here to take the training!
To view properly - view in Slide Show mode in
PowerPoint. (click
here to download PowerPoint viewer).
Having problems with PowerPoint? Click
here for .pdf
download.
This is a brief presentation that goes through
the logistics of the sale such as important dates, sale tips, Cookie
Works refresher and more. At the end of the training (after the
training evaluation), a certificate
of training completion will appear on your screen. You must print
this certificate, and then make arrangements to turn it in to your
service unit cookie consultant. You will be given your troop sales
packet in exchange for your certificate of training completion. (You
may also email your certificate to your service unit cookie
consultant, just remember that arrangements still need to be made to
pick up your troop sales packet.)
Experienced troop cookie managers are encouraged to do their
training online!
For new troop cookie managers, it is strongly suggested that you
attend an in-person cookie training provided by your service unit
cookie consultant, or by your regional product sales manager (if
applicable). If needed, service unit cookie consultants will be
arranging one in-person training in their area of town. For
the date, time and location of the in-person training in your area,
please contact your service unit cookie consultant. Troop
sales packet will be handed out immediately after training.
*All troops wishing to participate in
the cookie sale must either complete the online training or
in-person training.
